May 2022’s youkai in Youkai Year were kappas! Kappa's can look pretty scary so I took some liberties with this month's designs. It ended up being themed with lily pads. Kappas are depicted as turtles with bird like beaks. The water dish on top of kappa's heads must always be filled for a happy kappa; they are their source of power. They live in rivers and ponds with their families and are known to eat cucumbers.
