May 5th is Children’s Day in Japan. Growing up we celebrated girl’s day and boy’s day with dolls (hina dolls) karp flags (koi nobori). For this month I based the main pin off of a Zashiki-Warashi, they are house spirits and usually appear as children. They like creating mischief but are believed to bring great fortune to those whose houses they reside in. In this month’s pin I have her out enjoying the festivities with all the other children. Maybe she’s causing a little mischief too~
